Phenol Destruct Technologies: Overview
Carbon tanks remove phenol through absorption, but eventually become exhausted. Depending on size and loading they cost about $2500 per regeneration, and require "activation" prior to use. They can become plugged from influent solids, and require a consistent flow rate (removal based on contact time), for optimal results. They are not reliable for varying untreated phenol levels and or flow variation.
Ozone - not very effective with waste streams that are high in organics. Also not effective for ring structures organics like phenols.
Hydrogen peroxide - needs a catalyst for reaction.
Fenton's requires an acidic pH, ferrous iron, hydrogen peroxide, pH adjustment for removal.
